Based on the short story of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft, "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" follows a young psychiatrist who seeks, through a series of experiments on his patient Joe Slater, who suffers from daydreams and associated seizures, to unravel the mystery of the nature of dreams and to break the wall, that separates people from this unreal world.
He finds more than he hoped for.
This film represents the attempt to combine the Lovecraftian narrative with experimental visual techniques based on the silent film and in doing so to pose anew Descartes' question about the difference between the perceived reality and that of the dream.
